Rest Up….

20 Jun

I have multiple jobs in my life: cashier, writer, editor, actor, motivational speaker, blogger, friend,  & personal driver to my mother to name a few.  For the past few weeks my body had just wanted to rest. I’d come home from work, shower, relax in front of my computer, eat dinner, and fall asleep. I thought I was being lazy by lounging around my house doing nothing. Then I recently had a conversation with a dear friend and she said, “It is so important for us to let our bodies REST.” In that instant, everything made sense to me. I had been doing so much and my body wanted to relax. I had thought about the best time I had when I allowed my body to REST and have a mind of its own. This happened during my 25th birthday week, I carved out time for myself to go to New York City.

My theme for my birthday week was “Therapeutic 25,” which gave me time to reflect on my life from June 2010 to April 2011. I accomplished a lot of great goals, which took much dedication, patience, & perseverance. I got on the Amtrak train from Cleveland to New York City, shut my world down and gave back to my body. I had become very drained and depleted with my heavy work schedule. I went to go visit my friend in Brooklyn, NY and had the BEST week of my life. I barely used my phone, no one bothered me or needed my help, I could just be and live in the moment.  I got to live in New York City and experience its culture and be among the people.  I didn’t have a set schedule and each day was a new time to explore the various luxuries and fun times NYC had to offer.  I met some great people, connected with myself making sure that I was still sane and enjoying life, drank really good wine, and tasted delicacies that you can only imagine in NYC.

When I got back home I felt stronger and had a clearer focus and energy, to finish up the other projects I had been working on.  Now when my body tells me to slow down and REST, I fully allow myself too, guilt free. My health is so important to me and I will not become overwhelmed by life or other people’s demands. Please everyone, allow yourself a few days out of each month time to REST: No phones, no internet, & no work. Give yourself permission to heal and refresh because so many of us are on the verge of burning our bodies out, which is not beneficial for yourself or those around us. You can only give your best self, when you’ve RESTED up and have restored energy that will allow your creativity to effortlessly flow like ripples of conciousness into the universe.

Continue to be good to yourself,

Willie J
